Strategy rule builder interface with condition blocks and logic flow lines

How the strategy builder actually works

The Kingsley & Ashford strategy builder uses a condition-action model: you define the market condition (indicator value, price level, time window, or a combination), the action to take (open long, close short, adjust position size), and the risk parameters that override any action (maximum drawdown per session, correlation cap across open positions). Conditions are assembled from a library of 40+ technical indicators plus custom formula inputs. The completed rule set is stored as a versioned JSON object — you can diff any two versions to see exactly what changed and when. Deployment from draft to live takes one click and is reversible at any time.

From idea to running bot in four steps

The builder guides you through each layer; nothing is assumed or hidden.

1. Define your conditions

Select indicators from the library or write a custom formula. Each condition previews against 30 days of historical data so you can validate the signal frequency before saving.

2. Set position sizing

Choose fixed lot, fixed fraction, or volatility-adjusted sizing. The calculator shows the expected position size and notional exposure at current market prices in real time.

3. Attach risk controls

Daily loss cap, per-trade stop, maximum concurrent positions, and session time filters are applied as a hard constraint layer above the strategy — they cannot be overridden by a signal.

4. Deploy and monitor

Activate the strategy on your selected instrument and account slot. The dashboard updates every 5 seconds with position status, rule-trigger log, and running P&L breakdown.

“I had a clear mean-reversion idea I had been trading manually for two years. Building it in the Kingsley & Ashford rule editor took about an hour, including testing three parameter variants in backtest. The version control alone saved me from a configuration mistake that would have cost real money.”

What strategy automation does not do

The automation layer executes the rules you define. It does not predict market direction, does not adjust your strategy based on recent losses, and does not apply any proprietary signal on top of your logic. If the market conditions change structurally — a central bank shifts policy, a new correlation regime emerges — the bot will continue executing your original rules until you update them. Reviewing and updating strategies is part of the work of systematic trading; the platform makes that work faster and more transparent, but it does not replace it. We are explicit about this because we believe traders who understand their tools make better decisions.
